Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and the arms control. She traveled along with President Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate matters like that of the Iran Contra controversy.
